The many flood protection benefits of Parkside Estates are closer than ever to being approved, and your support will help ensure another project victory this Monday.

We sent you an email last week updating you on changes to the Parkside Estates plans that were required by the California Coastal Commission. These changes will be considered by the Huntington Beach City Council this Monday and we are asking you to show your support.

If you have already sent a letter of to the City Council, thank you for doing so, and we hope to see you at the City Council meeting. If not, we encourage you to take a moment to let the Council know that you support the plan by simply clicking on this link. You’ll be directed to our “Support Parkside Estates” page, where it takes just a few keystrokes to send your support letter to the City Council.

Approval of Parkside’s changes at the June 1 City Council hearing could speed the removal or reduction of flood insurance premiums for approximately 7,000 Huntington Beach homes and businesses.* Even though Parkside Estates was downsized by about one-third by the Coastal Commission, we are still committed to installing the approximately $15 million in regional infrastructure improvements, including the flood protection improvements that will bring about the changes in the flood map.

Opponents to the plan have filed numerous documents for the hearing, and we expect they will show up in force – even though the plan now has six acres of re-created and preserved wetlands and nearly half of the plan is open space. We need your support to overcome the opposition and have the flood protection plans realized for Huntington Beach!

Please send your letter and tell the City Council you support Parkside Estates. We also need concerned citizens like you to come to the hearing to be seen, and to speak in support of better flood protection and relief from high mandatory flood insurance premiums.
