Dear [drop in first name from database]:

Our Shea Parkside team won a major approval at our Coastal Commission hearing earlier this month, as the Commission approved “revised findings” that accurately reflected the Commission’s actions in its approval of Parkside Estates’ land use plan last November.

Because of the support of you and hundreds of others, we are closer than ever to approval, and all the great regional benefits approval will bring. We will be asking for your help with our next step, the City Council’s required approval of the changes the Coastal Commission made to the Local Coastal Plan in approving our plan. As soon as the matter is on the agenda for the City Council, we will let you know and ask you to send one of our quick and easy support letters to the Council.

Here’s an update on some of the many benefits of the Parkside plan.

  • First, all the benefits that follow will come with less traffic and fewer new school students, because the Coastal Commission reduced the development area.

  • The plan is now 50% conservation open space and 50% development, with five acres of re-created wetlands that will be permanently maintained. Less than one-third of an acre of functional wetlands are now on the site.

  • Before a single home can be built, Shea will make improvements to regional and local flood control infrastructure that will remove about 7,000 Huntington Beach homes and businesses from the flood zone.

  • That means no more mandatory flood insurance for approximately 7,000 homes and businesses and lower premiums for another approximately 7,000. (Premium reduction or elimination is subject to the terms of each individual’s mortgage and the policies of each individual’s lenders.) To see the changes to the flood map, click here. • Approximately 800 homes near the Shea Parkside site will be protected from tidal surge flooding.

If you have any questions, please send me an email [link to http://sheaparkside.com/contact.html], or call our community relations specialist, Laer Pearce, at 949/599-1212 ext. 202. Thank you very much for your continuing support!

Best regards,
